Warhammer 40k: New Intercessors & Boyz Close Up

New models are coming for Orks and Space Marines in the new Introductory Box Set – on pre-order now.
The upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Introductory Set is a great product for new players, but twelve all-new miniatures might make this an attractive purchase for veteran players as well. A squad of Intercessor Space Marines is led by an all-new Primaris Lieutenant (our first of the edition!) and faces off against an Ork Nob and five Boyz across a battlefield of card stock terrain. Games Workshop was kind enough to send us a preview copy, and here’s a first look at these brand new push-fit sculpts.
Primaris Lieutenant

What’s a new edition of 40k without a new Space Marine Primaris Lieutenant? Impossible to imagine, isn’t it? Well, fear not, because here he is; the first Primaris Lieutenant of 11th edition, but presumably not the last! The box art even has him painted as an Ultramarine in case you were worried. This is a pretty cool one, though, and I like his commanding pose atop a tactical rock. Gesturing with his power sword he’s presumably giving orders or issuing a challenge to a foe. He’s gonna look great in Blood Angels livery in my army before long.
Primaris Intercessors

Naturally, a Primaris Lieutenant needs lesser Primaris to command. An all new, five-man Intercessor squad is here to save the day. These five models are a great aesthetic match to the new squad in Armageddon. Each of them is posed dynamically, either springing into action or pausing to reload. The set of models have a great visual rhythm to them and will make a nice addition to pretty much any Space Marine army. I can definitely see myself adding these guys as a small back-line force to hold an objective.
Ork Nob and Boyz
An Ork Nob may not be quite on the power level of a Primaris Lieutenant, but he’s can still give one a run for his money and his loyal(?) Boyz are no slouches, either. Wielding a massive chainaxe in a downward swing, this sculpt is a perfect counterpart to the Lieutenant above. The five Boyz in his squad are armed with an array of weapons, some of which appear to be rokkits and other special weapons that the new Orks in the Armageddon box set are lacking.

This squad might make this box a “must buy” for anyone looking to expand their Armageddon squads. Mix them in with your other orks to pad out squads of Boyz with their supporting special weapons or start building a unit of Nobs. Ork players with multiple sets of Armageddon models might find this set particularly useful in building out their 10 man squads to full 20s without doubling up on the monopose Nobz from Armageddon.
For now, these models are all only available in the Introductory Set. There’s no word on whether we’ll see them as individual releases but it seems a safe bet that the new Orks might be included in the upcoming independent release of the Armageddon Boyz kit. No promises, though, this box set might be the only way to get your hands on these particular sculpts.
Are you going to add these new sculpts to an existing army?
