Brock and Salk’s reaction to Seattle Seahawks sale agreement

The Seattle Seahawks appear to have found their next owner.

The Paul G. Allen estate announced Saturday that it reached an agreement to sell the Seahawks to a group led by the Khosla family, with the selling price reportedly an NFL-record $9.6 million. The deal is expected to be approved by NFL owners in late August, according to ESPN.

Khosla family group agrees to buy Seahawks for reported record price

The Khosla-led group includes Vinod Khosla, his wife Neeru Khosla and their son Neal Khosla.

Vinod Khosla, 71, is the co-founder of Sun Microsystems and the founder of Khosla Ventures. He is worth approximately $13.7 billion, according to Forbes. In May 2025, he bought a 3.1% stake in the San Francisco 49ers that he will have to relinquish, per NFL rules.

Neeru Khosla would serve as the Seahawks’ controlling owner, while Neal Khosla would have “a significant leadership role” in the ownership group, according to a memo the NFL sent to its teams.

What does this all mean for the Seahawks? Seattle Sports’ Mike Salk and Brock Huard each provided their instant reaction to the news on Saturday evening.

Salk’s reaction

With the Khoslas still relatively new to the realm of sports ownership, Salk acknowledged that it will take some time to learn about their ownership approach and style.

“For Seahawks fans, we don’t know enough yet about Khosla as an owner,” Salk said. “Obviously, he’s been a minority partner with the San Francisco 49ers. He’s certainly got enough money, being worth well more than $13 billion himself.

“But in terms of ownership and his style, we’re going to wait and see. … We’re going to wait and find out and learn a lot more about Khosla over the course of the next weeks, months, and obviously years.”

Salk also highlighted how the Seahawks’ reported $9.6 million selling price illustrates the franchise’s “tremendous” value.

That figure easily surpasses the previous NFL record of $6.05 billion, which the Washington Commanders sold for 2023. And it falls just short of the North American pro sports record, which the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers set at $10 billion in October 2025.

“Let’s face it, all of the thought that the millionaire tax or the political climate in Seattle or whatever else people were throwing out there – none of that affected this sale price, which ended up being absolutely enormous,” Salk said. “So, the Seahawks have a tremendous amount of value.”

Brock’s reaction

Meanwhile, Huard focused on what he hopes to see from the Khosla family. In short, he wants them to follow the roadmap that the late Paul Allen and his sister, Jody Allen, provided over the past three decades.

“Please be like your predecessor,” Huard said. “Please be like Paul, Jody, the Allen family and the trust, and be totally committed to this team to do whatever it takes to win.

“I think one thing that has become abundantly clear over the decades of following the Allen leadership is they really don’t care about anything else but their players, their coaches, their staff, the organization, and about winning, and giving them every resource and tool to do so.”

Paul Allen saved pro football in Seattle when he purchased the Seahawks in 1997 from Ken Behring, who was on the verge of relocating the team to Southern California.

The Allens then presided over a lengthy run of success. Since 1997, the Seahawks have totaled the fifth-most wins in the NFL, along with two Super Bowl titles, four Super Bowl appearances, 11 division championships and 17 playoff appearances.

And now, in accordance with Allen’s will, the proceeds from the Seahawks’ sale will go to the late owner’s vast array of philanthropic efforts.

“The bar is set incredibly high,” Huard said. “The Allens have been one of the best owners and organizations over decades now with their leadership and their commitment.

“And I sure hope, more than anything else, that this new Seahawks regime takes a page – or I don’t know, 100 – out of the Allen playbook about what it means to be great owners.”
