Xbox Seems To Be Making A Fortune On The New Black Ops Ports For PS5

When Activision shadow dropped the new ports of Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 on PlayStation consoles last week, it quickly became obvious that people were lapping them up despite the lack of any real improvements to either game.

Now that we’re a few days on, we’re starting to see just popular these ports have become, with both games spotted trending higher than even GTA 6 on the PlayStation Store over the weekend.

Exact player numbers have yet to be revealed for either of these games, and they actually took out the in-game tracker for player numbers in these new ports, so we may never know exactly how well they’re faring.

For what it’s worth though, Call of Duty-focused social media account CharlieINTEL suggested on the weekend that, according to its “sources familiar with the player counts internally”, the new PlayStation ports had more players online than Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 across all platforms.

Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that there’s an extreme appetite for these games on PS5 (and PS4), and with Xbox owning Activision these days, it’s actually ended up being a success story for Microsoft and the Xbox division.

They might be regretting the decision not to create new ports for Xbox Series X, Series S and Xbox One at this point, as well as not putting in more effort to improve beyond what Digital Foundry called a “basic 1080p upgrade” last week.

Maybe this is just something to learn from? Maybe they could improve the backwards compatibility versions and entice more sales from Xbox fans? Maybe they could upgrade the resolution on these new ports to 4K and then give us the option to buy them on Xbox if we wish? We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds.
